After almost 20 years of negotiation, a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and REACT International, Inc., was signed on Wednesday, 16 May 2001. The MOU had been approved by both boards of directors in July 2000. The signing took place at the chapter headquarters of the Dallas Area Red Cross at a meeting hosted by the Dallas Amateur Radio Club. A reception prior to the signing was hosted by Dallas County REACT. Click on the thumbnail photos for much larger views of that photo.

Signing on behalf of the ARRL was President Jim Haynie W5JBP, while REACT president Charles A (Chuck) Thompson N5IAG signed for REACT International. Haynie and Thompson are both members of both the DARC and DCR. About 70 attended the signing ceremony, including Lee Besing N5NTG,
Texas State REACT Council president. Besing is also a Director of REACT International and is corporate secretary.

Also attending was Collin Caldwell KD5JFQ of University of Oklahoma REACT, representing his Team and Oklahoma County REACT. Representing Dallas County REACT were Bernie Parker K5BP, Pat Hykkonen N5NPL, Heather Hykkonen KC5ZTK, Rik Albury K4TTT, LuAnn Albury WB5LNW, Johnny Davis K5JD, Rene Albury N5OUX, Rhonda Albury KB5HCP, Larry Powell KD5KZD, and Candice Cotton KD5GSY.

Our thanks to the kind folks at the Dallas County Chapter of the American Red Cross for allowing us to hold this meeting in their fine facility.
And here is the cake (before it got all cut up into little pieces!)
...and last, but not least, I wish to express my special thanks to the guy sitting next to me, 'Frank' of the Dallas Amateur Radio Club, for his loan of some AA batteries for my digital camera when my rechargeable ones decided to die just as the meeting was beginning. I didn't get his call sign or last name, but he knows who he is. Frank, thanks for being there at the right time! If someone will provide his name and call sign, I'll update this page accordingly.
